Vacaville City Hall and Police Department vandalized during protest

Vacaville Police Department and City Hall were vandalized during a protest Sunday evening that started peacefully and ended with broken windows and black spray paint reading "ACAB."

According to police, approximately 40 to 50 people were demonstrating peacefully at Andrews Park, with some protestors carrying “Black Lives Matters” signs. When the march proceeded along Merchant Street, witnesses reported that protestors were spray-painting graffiti on signs on the downtown bridge, which matched messages on other buildings in the downtown area.

Upon arrival at City Hall around 5:30 p.m., demonstrators reportedly continued to spray-paint graffiti, as well as break City Hall windows and a police department door. The windows of two cards with people in them were also broken.

Protestors stayed out of City Hall and the Police Department.

The City of Vacaville posted on its Facebook page Sunday morning with photos and surveillance of the vandalism and said the damage is estimated to be between $20,000 and $30,000.

According to police, no arrests have been made in connection to the protest and the vandalism is still being investigated.
