A San Jose police officer valiantly saved a man from a burning vehicle on the shoulder of the Capitol Expressway on Sunday.

According to authorities, a crash on the highway led to one of the cars becoming consumed by flames with the driver still inside.

Knowing the urgency of the situation, rookie officer Pedro Garcia leapt into action, despite fire crews just moments away from arriving at the scene.

The rescue was captured on film by the crew of Engine 16 which is stationed in East San Jose.

Garcia can be seen rushing to the smoldering vehicle and pulling the victim out of the driver side door. Crews then extinguished the blaze on the blackened vehicle.

The victim was treated at the scene for his injuries and transported to a local hospital. Garcia remained uninjured.

"Heroes walk amongst us. There is no training for a moment like this," police officials tweeted. "We put our lives on the line to save others. Fantastic job Officer Garcia!"

No other details regarding the crash, including the extent of the victim’s injuries, were available.
