More than 100 cats and dogs were welcomed at several Bay Area Humane Societies after a shelter in Tulsa, Oklahoma became overwhelmed with animals.
A plane carrying the furry adoptees arrived Monday morning in Hayward.

The previous cargo were unloaded and transported into vans bound for 13 human societies around the Bay Area.
"Oh it’s fantastic, what a day," said John Reese with the Marin Humane Society, which organized the transport.
"They all look fairly well adjusted," said Reese.

Transports like this most commonly occur after a natural disaster, according to Marin’s director of Shelter Services Kerri Fennel.
"Lots of times at Marin Humane, we’re the ones asking people to take our animals because we have to take in people who are evacuated," said Fennel.
There was no natural disaster in Tulsa, but a few different factors created a sudden backlog of animals.
"Their veterinarian passed away in a car accident unexpectedly, and another transport was supposed to happen, but didn’t, so they were really stuck with 100 animals," said Fennel.
The animals still need to be processed but should be available for adoption in the coming weeks.
