Snow has not yet fallen in Santa Rosa, but temperatures are biting. The Caritas Center at 465 A St. is one of a half a dozen warming centers in Sonoma County. The space is a respite for those living on the street with few options.
"This has been one of the coldest nights of this year. It's just going to get worse," said Chris, who spent the night at the facility.
Sonoma County officials issued a freeze warning that will remain in effect for the coming days.
"We do expect it to be freezing Thursday night into Friday morning and also Friday night into Saturday morning, potentially even Saturday night too," Matt Brown, a Sonoma County spokesperson, told KCBS Radio.
The high winds earlier this week caused more damage to the county than expected. Paul Lowenthal with the Santa Rosa Fire Department said for now, it’s all about keeping up with the unpredictable weather.
"The focus right now is what this additional weather is going to bring for us," Lowenthal said. "We've seen some rain roll through the area already. We had some reports yesterday in the valley floor on the west side of Santa Rosa of some potential either snowflakes or flurries or hail."
