Officials from the town of Windsor reacted Friday to Dominic Foppoli’s resignation from his position as mayor.

The resignation came weeks after a San Francisco Chronicle investigation revealed multiple women accused Foppoli of sexual misconduct. The allegations against him date back to 2003 and include acts of drugging woman to facilitate sex.

In a statement announcing his resignation Friday, Foppoli denied the accusations.

But Foppoli’s initial refusal to step down caused a bit of divisiveness in the town, said Windsor Councilmember Esther Lemus, one of Foppoli’s accusers.

“There were 6 hours worth of public comments, over 100 people Zoomed in demanding his resignation,” she told KCBS Radio. “It was a very emotional meeting. Still, he declined to resign. So, certainly this is good news.”

Former reality TV star Farrah Abraham is the latest victim to come forward.

Vice Mayor Sam Salmon said Foppoli’s decision to leave means the town can heal and the process of selecting a new leader can begin.

“The behavior, whatever it was, however it was described, was unacceptable to the people of Windsor,” he said.
