Thirty-eight-year-old Kameron Patricia Reid was incarcerated in 2021 and admitted to giving fentanyl to two inmates, the Department of Justice reported. Reid hid the drug from officers inside a body cavity, the release said.
On May 16, 2021, she gave two inmates fentanyl and watched them snort the substance. One of the inmates became unconscious and motionless near her bunk, the Department of Justice said.
In her plea agreement, Reid said she didn't tell anyone in the jail that one of the inmates had overdosed because she didn't want to get in trouble, the release said. She then flushed the remaining fentanyl down the toilet.
Several hours later an inmate called for help regarding the overdosed victim. When paramedics arrived, they declared the victim dead.
Reid lied to investigators about her involvement in the woman's death but then admitted in her plea agreement that she gave the victim the fentanyl that killed her.
She pleaded guilty to two counts of distributing fentanyl and faces a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison a life term of supervised release and a million dollar fine, the Department of Justice reported.
She will be sentenced in a federal court in Oakland on Oct. 28.
