A 10-year-old girl reportedly stabbed her father as he attacked her mother in Harris County, Texas, this week.
Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said in a Wednesday press release that the 27-year-old man was stabbed in the leg and transported to a hospital in fair condition. NBC News reported that he was the girl’s father and the victim’s husband.
As of Wednesday, police were conducting a follow-up investigation at 540 Richcrest, near Greens Rd. and Imperial Valley.
“Awful situation for a 10-yr-old little girl to have to witness and experience,” said Gonzalez. “Children who witness the abuse of their mothers, fathers, or other family members, are impacted.”
In fact, recent research indicates that experiencing childhood trauma can even impact people physically as they enter their senior years.
Citing a complaint filed in Harris County Criminal Court, NBC News said the girl’s father was charged with misdemeanor assault on a family member. A protection order banning him from contacting the victim was filed Thursday as well.
Following the incident, the child and her mother were in good condition, said a sheriff’s spokesperson said.
