A poll released by YouGov revealed that 1 in 5 Americans believed that the U.S. government is attempting to track them through a microchip in the COVID-19 vaccines. President Joe Biden spent time last week blaming conspiracies and misinformation on the lagging vaccination numbers.

The poll asked 1,500 Americans to respond to the following statement: "The U.S. government is using the COVID-19 vaccine to microchip the population."

Of the response to the statement, 5% said the statement was "definitely true," and 15% responded with "probably true." only 46% of the respondents said it was definitely false.

One video on the conspiracy was viewed more than 27,000 times on Facebook, according to Reuters.

Published results show that most who believe the microchip conspiracy come from lower-income voters, white non-college-educated Americans, and Hispanic respondents. The results also found that 29% of 2020 Trump voters thought the statement was either definitely or probably true, while 0% of Biden supporters said it was definitely true and 8% said it was probably true.

The study also asked the group their thoughts on the statement “vaccines have been shown to cause autism.” Only 17% of respondents thought it was either definitely or probably true.

Biden spoke about how social media companies allowing misinformation were responsible for “killing people,” a statement he has since walked back.

With COVID-19 cases tripling over the past three weeks, still down from the highs seen in January, most cases are coming from those not vaccinated. Still, officials are concerned by the reversing trend lines saying that the numbers are being driven by 90 million eligible Americans who have yet to get their shots, WFLA reported.

“Look, the only pandemic we have is among the unvaccinated,” Biden said Friday.

Currently, the CDC is crediting more than 99% of all COVID-19 deaths and 97% of hospitalizations to those who have not received a vaccine.
