Tamara Greene would be 46 years old if she were alive today, the mother of a college student, a young grandmother, possibly a business owner and definitely enmeshed in the lives of her family and friends.
Instead, she's underneath a pink granite headstone and the focus of one of the most notorious unsolved mysteries in Detroit history.
On the 20th anniversary of her death, rumors remain rampant, but facts are scant.
We know she was shot to death April 30, 2003, on the northwest side of Detroit while she was idling inside a car with her boyfriend Eric 'Big E' Mitchell, but who killed her, and why was she killed? Those questions and more are the focus of a nine-episode true crime podcast 'Who Killed Strawberry, which you can listen to here.
Revisiting highlights from the podcast on the 20th anniversary of her murder, you'll discover if former Police Chief James Craig thinks her killing will ever be solved; what insiders to the world of Kwame Kilpatrick knew about him in the early 2000s that was a secret to everyone else. We also explore how twists and turns started the derailment of not only Kilpatrick's career, but also weighed in on former attorney general Mike Cox's run for governor.
Lots and lots of information police will tell you they expected to see in her file is gone. Where did it go?
Many will tell you she danced at a never-proven wild party at the Manoogian Mansion for Kwame Kilpatrick, was beaten by his then-wife Carlita, and was murdered after a blackmail attempt.
But no one has ever been charged in that scenario and no piece of that storyline has ever been proven beyond doubt -- so, why does it remain fixed in the minds of so many?
Most importantly, 20 years later, will enough evidence ever come forward for someone to be charged and convicted in her death?
Reporters think it's possible, so does former Police Chief James Craig.
And if anyone does come forward, there's still the matter of $102,500 available as a reward from Crime Stoppers. Watch their announcement here from 2018.
"It is one of the biggest unsolved murder mysteries in Detroit," Crime Stoppers' Dindi Maloney said. "If you know something, say something, and bring her children some form of peace."
