A missing 3-year-old boy who wandered away from his home last Friday was located by a Florida police K-9, who is being hailed as a hero, authorities shared.

The DeLand Police Department shared that the boy was reported missing at around 11:30 a.m., and authorities immediately launched a team to find the toddler.

Officers focused their efforts on the woods behind the family’s home.

Among the searchers was the K-9 Midnight, who is trained in narcotics and missing people, along with his handler, Cpl. Damon Clark.

Midnight was able to pick up the child’s scent using his blanket and then quickly went into the woods. He followed the trail all the way to the spot where he located the boy, officials shared.

The child was unharmed and returned safely to his family, the police shared.

“Good work to all teams involved!” police said in a statement. “This is the outcome we hope for in these situations, a safe return!”

Midnight was praised for his find and joined the long list of K-9s who have helped find missing children. The good boy has been with the DeLand Police Department since 2022.
