Parking restrictions were in place Saturday morning near Blue Hill Avenue in Boston, Mass., for the annual Caribbean Carnival.
Instead of parades and fun times, a mass shooting broke out at Blue Hill and Talbot avenues at around 7:44 a.m. Police responded to the area for a report of multiple people shot.
Seven victims were transported to local hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries, the Boston Police Department told Audacy.
“Firearms have been recovered and arrests made. It is an ongoing investigation. No further information at this time,” said police.
According to a previous announcement from the department, the annual Caribbean Carnival was expected to take place with two separate parades Saturday. First would be the Jouvert Parade that starts at 6:30 a.m. on Talbot Avenue at Kerwin Street and proceeds up Blue Hill Avenue to the Circuit Drive Entrance for Franklin Park. A second parade was expected to begin at 1 p.m. on Warren Street at Martin Luther King Boulevard and proceed on Warren Street to Blue Hill Avenue ending on Blue Hill Avenue at the park entrance.
WGBH reported that this year marks the carnival’s 50th anniversary.
It celebrates Caribbean culture and heritage.
