In a memo reviewed by CNBC, the Seattle-based company said it was considering mandating COVID vaccines for employees.

While American, Delta, and Southwest are not mandating vaccinations for employees, several other airlines have. The first airline - United - announced its requirement Friday before Frontier and Hawaiian followed suit.

Alaska said it would only consider mandating the vaccine after receiving full approval from the Food and Drug Administration. Currently, the vaccines only have emergency use authorization.

“As an employer with a duty to keep you safe and given the contagiousness and health risks of the COVID-19 virus and its variants, we are within our rights to make this decision and to ask you for information about your vaccine status,” Alaska said in its memo to employees.

An estimated 20,000 people work for Alaska Airlines.
