A New York trademark attorney has earned a $15,000 payday for an $8.99 investment he made into the rights to the website HarrisWalz.com back in 2020.

Jeremy Green Eche brought in $15,000 this week for the rights to the website that he purchased at the turn of the decade. The practice isn’t uncommon for Eche, who shared with CBS MoneyWatch that he often purchases unclaimed domain names for under $10 with the hopes of cashing in later on.

“I buy domain names that consist of combinations of two last names that I hope will end up being a major party’s presidential ticket,” Eche told the outlet.

Eche, who shared that he is a supporter of Vice President Kamala Harris and hopes she wins the White House in November, purchased HarrisWalz.com four years ago for $8.99.

“I get to put whatever I want up on the website and have a ton of people look at it, and usually I end up selling it,” he said.

The website is obviously a combination of Harris’s last name and that of her running mate, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz.

Eche shared that the domain was sold this week to an individual buyer who only identified himself as a Harris supporter. The buyer is not affiliated with the Harris-Walz campaign, Eche shared.

Currently, if you visit the website, you are redirected to kamalaharris.com, the campaign site for the vice president.

As for any interest from the campaign in purchasing the site, Eche shared that he did not hear from Harris’s team.

Eche says that right now, he owns about 60 domains, most of which are made up of the names of politicians, who he says are both Democrats and Republicans, who he thinks might run for president.

“I do try to do both sides, but it’s a lot harder to predict the Republican ticket than the Democratic ticket these days,” he said.
