As kids return to school, a big question parents face is whether to sign them up for sports and how much time and money to devote to them.

Enter 'The State of Play,' a fascinating deep dive on the risks and rewards of youth sport from casual rec leagues and high level travel teams to pricey private coaching. The town hall will air at 7 p.m. Sept. 7 on KCBS and on every other local Audacy News station, WBBM in Chicago, KRLD in Dallas-Fort Worth, WCBS 880 in New York, KNX in Los Angeles and KYW in Philadelphia. The show will air at 7p.m. Friday, Sept. 8 on WWJ in Detroit.

Also: save the date for the KCBS in person Town Hall happening 6:30-8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 5. Tickets are available HERE.

We all know that youth sports play a big part in growing up, teaching kids camaraderie, leadership, sportsmanship, discipline and more. But how much is too much? Audacy's news stations around the country launched a coordinated reporting effort to explore the upsides and risks -- from the mental and physical health benefits to the potential harm if kids specialize too soon -- and how parents and children can best navigate all of this.

Listen on-air to your local Audacy news station for a series of reports in the first week of September. We'll refresh this post with clips as they happen.

And be sure to tune in to a special 60-minute town hall special at 7 p.m. on Thursday September 7th on the Audacy app, your local news station on desktop, a smart speaker or wherever you listen.
