(KMOX) - A group of 16 hunters in Missouri violated state laws on the amount of squirrels allowed to harvest. They had a total of 471 squirrels, killed over a 2-day period.

Missouri regulations allow for the daily harvest of 10 squirrels and a possession limit of two daily limits for a total of no more than 20 squirrels in possession for each person. This group hunting in the Current River Conservation Area in souther Missouri was 151 squirrels over the allowed possession limit.
The department says they were tipped off about the hunters by a citizen who called it in. All 16 hunters were cited for possession of overlimit of squirrels and warnings were issued for failure to keep wildlife separate and identifiable.
A photo of the evidence shared by the department has gained more than 2,200 views:
The hunters were described as nonresidents. Squirrel hunting season lasts from May 22 to Feb. 15 in Missouri.
“Daily and possession limits are in place to help maintain wildlife populations at harvestable levels so that everyone has an opportunity now and in the future to pursue wildlife,” a Facebook post by the Missouri Conservation Agents Association said. “Without them, localized or even statewide populations of wildlife would certainly plummet!”
If you see a possible violation of the Wildlife Code of Missouri, please contact your local conservation agent or Operation Game Thief at 1-800-392-1111.
