Police near Fairbanks, Alaska are asking for information after a newborn baby was found abandoned in a cardboard box in subzero temperatures on New Year's Eve.
State Troopers were notified Friday afternoon that a baby had been found near an intersection and "seemed to have been abandoned at the location recently," according to the Alaska Department of Public Safety.
Police said a note was also left with the child indicating his parents could not take care of him.
"Please help me!!! I was born today on December 31, 2021 6 a.m. I was born 12 weeks premature. My mom was 28 weeks when she had me. My parents and grandparents don't have food or money to raise me. They NEVER wanted to do this to me," the note said, according to the New York Post. "My mom is so sad to do this. Please take me and find me a LOVING FAMILY. My parents are begging whoever finds me. My name is Teshawn."
The wind chill factor in the area at the time was around 12 degrees below zero.
The baby was taken to a local hospital and was found to be in good health, according to police.
The baby was found by Roxy Lane, the New York Post reported. She posted video of the baby on Facebook, along with the heartbreaking note.
"Today I saved a baby and I'll probably think about Teshawn for the rest of my life," Lane said. "Clearly, someone in our community felt so lost and hopeless that they made probably the hardest choice of their lives to leave that innocent life on the side of the road with nothing but some blankets and a name."
Police are asking for anyone with information about the child to come forward.
