NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Bernie Sanders made quite the fashion statement at Joe Biden and Kamala Harris' inauguration -- and the Internet can't handle it.
No sleek designer menswear for this socialist senator: The independent from Vermont wore a bulky parka and woven mittens -- a wee bit overkill since temps were in the 40s -- paired with a run-of-the-mill light blue surgical mask.

Not surprisingly, the Twittersphere was relentless in its critique of Sanders' ensemble.
“Bernie Sanders showed up to the #InaugurationDay proceedings looking like a man who was preparing to shovel the driveway, a man who was about to get into his Subaru Forester and head to the grocery store. Iconic,” tweeted New York Magazine’s “The Cut.”
“Bernie dressed to stand on line at the post office,” freelance writer Clare Malone tweeted.
Vogue was a bit more gentle: "The lovingly ruffled Vermont senator attended today’s inauguration in a signature pared-back look—what else would we expect from him?" the magazine wrote.

The mittens were made by Vermont teacher Jenna Ellis who gave them to Sanders as a gift a couple years ago. "They are made from repurposed wool sweaters and lined with fleece (made from recycled plastic bottles) #BERNIESMITTENS," she tweeted.
Sanders took it in good stride, though, telling CBS News, "“In Vermont we dress warm... we know something about the cold. We’re not so concerned about good fashion. We want to keep warm.”
