PHILADELPHIA (Audacy/KYW Newsradio) — Bob Saget, who is best known for his role as Danny Tanner on “Full House,” has died. He was 65.
TMZ first reported the news Sunday evening. It was then confirmed by the Orange County Sheriff's Office. Multiple sources connected to the comedian and actor confirmed he died Sunday at the Ritz-Carlton in Orlando.
The outlet reports that the sheriff’s department and fire department both responded to the hotel around 4 p.m. after Saget was found in his room by security. He was reportedly pronounced dead at the scene.
It’s unclear what circumstances led to his death, but there is no evidence of drug use or foul play, according to the Orange County Sheriff's Office.
Saget was born in Philadelphia in 1956. He graduated from Abington Senior High School in 1975 and Temple University in 1978. He was inducted into Abington's Hall of Fame in 1991.
Saget was known as the beloved father Danny Tanner on “Full House,” always ready to clean up any mess or give fatherly advice. He reprised his role for Netflix’s reboot “Fuller House,” which ran from 2016 to 2020.
Saget was also a long-time host of “America’s Funniest Home Videos” and performed stand-up.
Before his rise to fame, Saget was a friend to a KYW Newsradio anchor Jeff Asch when they were teenagers. The two met while working at the same supermarket — Saget behind the deli, Asch at the register.
“He genuinely was a good guy,” remembered Asch. “Was always nice to not only me but my family, my friends. And I was proud to call him a friend.”
They stayed friends at Temple after graduating from Abington High, even helping each other out on school projects.
“I knew then that this guy was going to make it big,” Asch said. “I mean, he was just so talented. He was crazy but good crazy. He was the sweetest, nicest guy, but he would always do these outlandish things.”
Some of Saget's "Full House" costars shared their shock and grief on Twitter Sunday night.
Saget was reportedly on tour with a recent stop Friday night at Jacksonville's Ponte Vedra Concert Hall.
