ODESSA (1080 KRLD)- The city of Odessa remains under a boil water notice Thursday morning after a major water line break.

Residents have slowly begun to see water be restored Wednesday and were told "normal" water service could be seen as early as Thursday night.

An estimated 165,000 residents were affected after the main water line break losing the ability to open their taps for basic household functions. The city has not said what caused the rupture but the water line is more than 60 years old.

The Texas Department of Emergency Management deployed truckloads of bottled water. Ector County Judge Debi Hays issued a disaster declaration and the boil water notice.

According to statements from City Hall and State Rep. Brooks Landgraf, the main break was repaired at 3:45 a.m. on Wednesday.

“We’re not out of the woods yet, but the recovery effort is in full force,” Landraf said, NBC reports. "The water break could not have happened at worse time for Odessa, as temperatures soared in an early summer heat wave."

Temperatures over the weekend in Odessa were in the 100s, 98 degrees Wednesday and are expected to reach 96 degrees on Thursday.
