(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Some people are seeing more centipedes in their homes as the weather gets cooler, and a bug expert says that could mean a home is infected with other pests.
Robiar Smith, CEO of R.B. Pest Solutions on Chicago's South Side, said centipedes are attracted to homes that are infested with other insects such bed bugs and cockroaches.
“They’re natural exterminators,” she says of centipedes, “however, they just create a nuisance, once you have places in your home that creates moisture and clutter. So, that’s why it’s important for your cleaning regimen.”
Smith says you can help reduce the number of centipedes and other insects by cleaning and dusting, as well as spraying baseboards with a solution of water and a few drops of essential oil.
If you continue to find centipedes in your home, you might need to call in a pest control professional, she said.
