Intelligence officials are sounding the alarm about a binder of highly-classified information that went missing in the final days of the Trump administration.
The binder contained thousands of pages of sensitive materials, including information related to Russian election interference, according to a CNN investigation.
"Some of the most closely guarded national security secrets from the US and its allies could be exposed," CNN reported, citing unnamed sources. "In the two-plus years since Trump left office, the missing intelligence does not appear to have been found."
The binder, which was reportedly 10-inches thick, was so guarded that it was kept in a locked safe at CIA headquarters in Langley, Virginia -- until President Donald Trump was leaving office, per CNN.
Trump wanted the most sensitive information in the binder to be redacted so the White House could release documents related to the FBI's Russia investigation. Under the guidance of then-White House chief of staff Mark Meadows, multiple copies of the redacted binder were created with plans to distribute them, CNN reported.
However, the original unredacted version of the binder containing the "classified raw intelligence" went missing and its whereabouts are still unknown to this day.
"The circumstances surrounding its disappearance remain shrouded in mystery," CNN reported. "US officials repeatedly declined to discuss any government efforts to locate the binder or confirm that any intelligence was missing."
Intelligence agencies declined to comment on the report and Trump's lawyer did not respond to CNN's request for comment.
