An Oklahoma woman learned firsthand last weekend just how dangerous animals can be, even when they appear friendly, when a monkey unexpectedly ended up on her doorstep.

“I had actually Facetimed some family, and I was like, ‘Look! There’s a monkey,’” Brittany Parker told KXII/Gray News. “He was pacing back, and then he was jumping off of my railing and hitting my storm door.”

When the monkey damaged the door handle in its attempts to enter the home, Parker called 911.

“We get animal calls all the time,” Dickson Police Chief Tim Duncan told KXII/Gray News. “It’s something that we deal with, it’s just -- monkeys are not a normal thing for us.”

When officers arrived, the monkey appeared friendly towards them, so Parker went outside with her son. That’s when the primate attacked.

“He crawled up my back, yanked out multiple wads of hair and then ripped my ear in half,” Parker said. “And it was just hanging.”

Parker was treated at a local hospital and given a rabies vaccination. The monkey ran off after its attack on Parker, but was eventually seen in the vicinity of the neighborhood, where one of Parker’s friends shot and killed it.

Dickson Police are still trying to locate the monkey’s owner and determine if there will be charges filed.
