When the zombie apocalypse happens, will you be ready? According to a "study" of the largest 200 cities in the country, Houston is the most prepared for the apocalypse, while Miramar, Fla., is the least prepared.

Matt Thomas, a radio anchor in Houston, joined the "Something Offbeat" podcast to explain what makes Houston safe.

"You know, since you sent me this article, I've spent an embarrassingly long time thinking about why Houston would be number one to survive the zombie apocalypse," he told host Mike Rogers. "And my takeaways are that we have a lot of sporting goods stores and a lot of good ways to get the hell out of here."

We also caught up with Zach Clark of Audacy's WWJ in Detroit, to discuss why the Motor City came in at No. 194, and why the list makes might want to re-think its ranking.

"There is a fort that's about 200 years old on the Detroit River. It’s no longer in use, obviously, but it's been maintained and they use it for events. And this time of year, they use it for haunts. But it's this huge fortress and it backs up to the Detroit River," he said. "So, things get super squirrely. You know, maybe you can press, like against the current and see what happens."

Each week, "Something Offbeat" takes a deeper look at an unusual headline. If you have suggestions for stories the podcast should cover, send them to us at somethingoffbeat@audacy.com.
