Police have shared that a California man was arrested on Thursday for child pornography charges after his wife found a hidden camera in their guest bathroom. The camera was connected to a hard drive, which allegedly contains more than 900 images of child sex abuse.

Ryan Rovito, 34, was arrested by officers with the Redding Police Department almost a week after his wife allegedly found that camera, police shared in a press release.

The department shared that after his wife found the device, she reportedly gave police the camera and the hard drive containing the graphic content.

Authorities allegedly performed a forensic analysis on the devices, resulting in them discovering the images and multiple videos from the camera showing “children and adults using the bathroom who did not appear to know they were being recorded.”

The police shared that Rovito allegedly “admitted knowledge of the camera but vowed to remove and discard it” after his wife discovered it earlier this month.

Police shared that Rovito’s wife gave the department the devices because she feared “Rovito had nefariously recorded their young children using the bathroom.”

Police found hundreds of pieces of media that showed child sex abuse on Rovito’s devices, resulting in detectives obtaining an arrest warrant for the California man. They took him into custody during a traffic stop on Thursday morning, the department shared.

Following his arrest, Rovito’s wife requested and was granted a temporary restraining order against him on Friday.

Rovito was booked into the Shasta County Jail on charges “related to the possession of child pornography and the surreptitious recording of an identifiable person who was undressed,” the police shared. His next court date is set for April 7.
