A father and son were both stars this Monday at a Milwaukee Bucks game.
Germelle Scott Jr., a 7-year-old with sickle cell anemia, was at Fiserv Forum in Milwaukee, Wisc., for the Midwest Athletes Against Childhood Cancer (MACC) Fund game with his family. He is the designer of this year’s TMJ4 MACC Star ornament and was being honored as the organization’s star of the year.
At the game, his father – Germelle Scott, Sr. – signed up for the Potawatomi Hotel & Casino Jackpot Shot at the urging of stadium employees, according to WBAL.
“It was a night for him,” Scott, a father of three, said of his son. “I said, ‘Sure, why not? Sign me up.’”
Although Scott played basketball in high school, he admitted that he hasn’t even picked up a ball since 2015. Even so, WBAL said he fell right back into the rhythm of the game and made the $10,000 half-court shot.
Before making the money shot, he also made a layup, a free throw and a three-point shot. In addition to making the winning basket, he also got to see his son cheer him on afterwards.
“I was just thinking if it wasn’t for you, I wouldn’t be here right now, so yeah he’s going to have a nice Christmas,” Scott said. “I checked the recording. He was cheering, saying, ‘Daddy made it. Daddy made it. Daddy made it.’”
Scott, who works two jobs to support his family, said he plans to use the prize money to buy them nice Christmas gifts and to start his own business.
