The Federal Bureau of Investigations has launched an investigation in Kansas after dozens of letters were discovered, addressed to state legislators and public officials, with a “suspicious” white powder on them.

In an update released on Saturday, the Kansas Bureau of Investigation upped the number to more than 80 after being at 30 on Friday.

“Law enforcement is working to safely collect the letters and investigate the incidents,” the agency said in a statement. “Currently, no injuries have been reported, but we ask everyone to remain vigilant in handling mail.”

The FBI, KBI, Kansas Department of Health and Environment, the Office of the State Fire Marshal, the state’s highway patrol, and more are all looking into the situation.

Kansas state Rep. Tory Marie Blew shared on social media that she had received a letter and that the situation was “not okay.”

“I’m very thankful for our first responders -- words can’t describe my gratitude after this event,” Blew said.

Law enforcement agencies did not share what the substance was but noted that the investigation into the situation is ongoing.
