Making history for the LGBTQ community, Sarah McBride has won the Delaware State Senate race, as the first transgender state senator in U.S. history.

McBride posted her about her big win.

"We did it. We won the general election," she wrote. "Thank you, thank you, thank you."

McBride campaigned on making health care more affordable, instituting universal paid family and medical leave, championing universal pre-K, and a focus on criminal justice reform.

McBride joins Colorado State Representative Brianna Titone, New Hampshire State Representatives Lisa Bunker and Gerri Cannon, and Virginia State Delegate Danica Roem, who was the first out trans person to serve in a state legislature as one of the four out trans people currently serving in various state legislatures.
