A Florida pilot was taken with the holiday spirit when he took to the skies last weekend to wish a very airy Christmas to a very select audience.

Nathan Mitich’s flight pattern may have looked wildly erratic to anyone watching from the ground as the plane zigged and zagged through the air, but anyone monitoring his aircraft on radar could see what he had in mind.

Mitich was drawing a giant Christmas tree across the Florida sky.

The Lakeland, Fla., native and current lieutenant commander in the U.S. Navy needed about four hours to complete the massive art piece in his C127 plane. His tree featured a star on top and presents around the base.

The image of the flight path from flight monitoring software FlightAware quickly went viral.

When asked what’s next, Mitich said he’s planning to retire from military service “soon” and then hopes to become a commercial pilot at a major airline.
