Chicago police have made two arrests in connection with a series of armed robberies and a carjacking.

The criminals who pulled off the violent crimes are two girls, ages 13 and 16, police said.

The unidentified girls embarked on their crime spree Wednesday, robbing four different people and stealing a car at gunpoint -- all over a 40-minute period on the city's south side, according to the Chicago Police Department.

The first incident happened around 1:40 p.m. in the 8700 block of S. Aberdeen Street, where police say the pair robbed a 26-year-old man.

About 15 minutes later and in the same block, the girls robbed a 35-year-old woman, police said.

Shortly thereafter, at 2:18 p.m., the duo robbed two 17-year-old boys in the 400 block of W. 81st Street, according to police. Officers arrested the girls as this crime was being committed.

Police said the girls also took a vehicle at gunpoint, but they did not specify from whom.

The teens are now facing several felony charges, including one count of aggravated vehicular hijacking, three counts of armed robbery and one count of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon.

The 16-year-old is also facing a charge of possession of a stolen firearm, while the 13-year-old is charged with aggravated assault on a police officer.
