The jury found 49-year-old Guy Wesley Reffitt guilty of five charges including fighting with US Capitol police, taking a firearm to the US Capitol, illegally entering the Capitol complex, and obstructing Congress' counting of the electoral college, and threatening his family members when he returned home after the riots.

The charges carry a maximum of 20-years in prison.

It's that last charge that is catching the ire of Reffitt's wife. In a recent tweet, Nichole Reffitt took aim at federal prosecutors who had put their daughter on the witness list but then did not call her.

"The treatment of our daughter by the DOJ should worry all Americans." Mrs. Reffitt wrote. "The DOJ has taken their overreach of the citizens one step to far for this momma."

Prosecutors say Reffitt lit the fire that started the crowd charging up the steps of the Capitol January 6th.

“A mob needs leaders and this man, Guy Wesley Reffitt of Wylie, Texas, drove all the way from home in Texas to Washington D.C. to step up and fulfill that role,” Assistant U.S. Attorney Jeffrey S. Nestler told the jurors during opening statements in the case.

Reffitt's defense attorney says he quit as soon as the pepper-spraying started.

This is the first trial by the Department of Justice in the sprawling January 6th investigation.
