How to care for your pool in extreme heat

There's nothing like a cool dip when the weather is this hot, but even your pool needs a little more care in this heat. The heat causes water to evaporate faster, which can mess with the pH level and that can lead to bacteria and algae growth.

Wyatt Flournoy owner of Mustang Pool Service in Grapevine says to add a little more chlorine when you add more water, and to keep that water moving

"As the temperature warms up you want to run your pump longer," he said. "I tell people this time of year a minimum of eight hours run time, and that's if you have single-speed pump. If you're running a variable speed pump, you're going to want at least 12 hours."

Forget about adding ice to your pool to cool it off -- you'd need a truckload. But Flournoy said if you have fountains in your pool, run them at night. It pulls the cool water from the bottom of the pool and sprays it on the top and it should drop the water temperature a couple of degrees.
