Hikers in Southern California stumbled upon human remains on Saturday in the same area of Mount Baldy where British actor Julian Sands went missing more than five months ago.

The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department shared a press release that noted the remains were found by hikers at approximately 10 a.m.

The remains of the victim have been transported to the county coroner’s office for identification after deputies responded and confirmed they were of human origin, the sheriff’s department reported.

Sands, 65, went missing on the night of Jan. 13 on Mount Baldy, located about 50 miles northeast of downtown Los Angeles.

The Sheriff’s officials announced on June 17 that they were resuming their search for Sands, as over 80 search and rescue volunteers, deputies, and staff were helping in the efforts. However, the search was not successful, as he again went unfound.

“Despite the recent warmer weather, portions of the mountain remain inaccessible due to extreme alpine conditions,” the sheriff’s department said in a press release from last week. “Multiple areas include steep terrain and ravines, which still have 10 plus feet of ice and snow.”

Winter storms battered California throughout the winter months, which then caused flooding and mudslides throughout the state.

Two days after Sands went missing, the slick conditions resulted in a mother of four dying after she slid more than 500 feet down Mount Baldy.

Sands has dozens of film and television credits over his five-decade career, his most notable being “A Room with a View,” “Leaving Las Vegas,” and “Oceans Thirteen.”
