SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS RADIO) – Attorneys for Hunter Biden, son of President Joe Biden, are expected to meet with U.S. Department of Justice officials next week regarding a long-running investigation into the younger Biden.

"Multiple sources familiar with the matter," informed CNN about the meeting, according to the outlet.

It said the meeting was expected to include U.S. attorney David Weiss – and appointee of former President Donald Trump who is overseeing the case – and at least one senior official from the department. Per the Friday report, Hunter Biden's legal team reached out to the DOJ to get an update on the case.

Hunter Biden is a lawyer and artist, according to his publisher, Simon & Schuster.

The Hill also reported this week that Internal Revenue Service supervisor Mark Lytle sent Congress a letter Wednesday. This letter said "they have information that contradicts sworn testimony that a senior political appointee gave to Congress," but it does not name the official, said the outlet.

"The letter does not specifically name Hunter Biden, but states that the IRS agent has been overseeing the ongoing investigation into a 'high-profile, controversial subject' since early 2020," The Hill explained.

Earlier this week White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said that "the Department of Justice will certainly deal with this issue," and that the president respects the rule of law when asked about an IRS agent who wants whistleblower protections to talk about Hunter Biden's taxes.

According to CNN's sources, prosecutors are "weighing whether to bring two misdemeanor charges for failure to file taxes, one count of felony tax evasion related to the overreporting of expenses, and a false statement charge regarding a gun purchase," against the president's son. There hasn't been an update in the case since last year, said the outlet.

It also said that the DOJ didn't comment and that a spokesperson for the U.S. attorney's office in Delaware declined to comment.
