‘There is much blood in our town now’: Khershon resident describes terror of living in Ukraine city controlled by Russian troops

LOS ANGELES (KNX) - Since the Russian invasion in Ukraine, the city of Khershon has become the first major Ukrainian City to be taken over by the Russian troops.

Natalia, Kherson resident and a English teacher, is currently living in her basement with her family, which includes her teenage daughter and her sister, who has a son and a newborn. It’s a safe haven from the increasing amount of Russian troops in her town.

Staying inside and going outside is a matter of life and death.

“We hear explosions every day and now Russian people attack our town. There are a lot (of Russian troops) in our town and we can’t go anywhere,” she told KNX In Depth. “We have to stay, we must stay in our home. We can’t go anywhere. We don’t have any medicine or food.”

The situation has left Natalia’s teenage daughter frightened. “She understands everything and she is very scared. She can’t go anywhere because it is very dangerous for sure. She only hear eruptions every day and explosions.”

All Natalia is asking for is peace.

“Our town is very peaceful. We are peaceful people and we don’t war. We just want to live in peaceful town, in peaceful country.”
