Each year, flu cases begin to increase around October in the U.S. By taking the protective step to get a flu vaccine this year, Kroger shoppers can get $10 towards their next grocery purchase.

“As a community-focused company, we are here to help associates and customers stay healthy ahead of flu season and are pleased to offer a promotion that rewards shoppers for taking care of their health and wellbeing,” said James Menees, corporate affairs manager of Kroger Mid-Atlantic, according to the Smith Mountain Eagle. “It’s our hope that by providing everyone with access to nutritious food and medicine, we can all be stronger together going into the fall.”

In order to get the deal, consumers age 18 and older must get their flu shot at a Kroger’s pharmacy before Dec. 1. When they do the credit will be loaded on to their Shopper’s Card account.

Once they get their $10 credit, shoppers cannot use it towards healthcare, alcohol or tobacco. Additionally, state laws make the offer invalid in Alabama, Arkansas, Illinois, Mississippi, Montana, Idaho, New Mexico and Utah. Check with your local Kroger for availability in other states.

Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, reducing the spread of respiratory illnesses is more important than ever,” said Kroger.

, influenza activity is minimal in the U.S. this month. However, by the end of each flu season, around 3% to 11% of Americans have typically been infected with the virus. Flu symptoms include fever, cough, sore throat, runny or stuffy nose, muscle or body aches, headaches and fatigue. While most people recover from the flu, infections sometimes lead to complications and even death.

In addition to the flu vaccine special offer, Kroger Thursday announced its annual Hunger Action Month Campaign. This gives customers the option to round up at the register and donate to their local food bank.

“We are continually inspired by the generosity and passion of our customers in our shared mission to end hunger in our communities,” said Keith Dailey, Kroger’s group vice president of corporate affairs and chief sustainability officer.
