A 58-year-old Virginia hunter died on Friday after a bear fell on him while he was on a hunting trip earlier last week, according to officials in Virginia.
The Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources has identified the man as Lester Clayton Harvey Jr., sharing in a statement that he was with a group of hunters who were following a bear during their trip on Dec. 9.
According to the department, the bear ran up a tree, and as the group walked away from it, one of the hunters shot the bear, resulting in it falling onto Harvey, who was standing about 10 feet from the bottom.
One of the hunters tried to administer first aid before Harvey was taken to the hospital, officials shared. He died from his injuries on Friday.
