Transporting illicit materials through an airport is never a good idea, and if you get caught you're subject to often insane fines or punishments.

This might be the most insane: A passenger was hit with a huge fine -- all over a McDonald's breakfast.

The unnamed passenger was flying from Bali, Indonesia to Northern Australia when a K-9 officer alerted human officers to something in the man's luggage.

Upon a check of his bags, officers discovered a very illegal collection of a McDonald’s meal: two McMuffins and a ham croissant.

Unfortunately, the man didn’t appear to declare the food items to security, and thus was slapped with a fine of $1,874 for trying to bring the food into the Land Down Under.

The amount of the fine is equivalent to the cost of 567 Egg McMuffins, according to CBS News.

Murray Watt, Australia’s minister for agriculture, fisheries and forestry, called it the "most expensive" McDonald's meal the passenger will ever eat.

“This fine is twice the cost of an airfare to Bali, but I have no sympathy for people who choose to disobey Australia’s strict biosecurity measures, and recent detections show you will be caught," Watt said, per the New York Post.

Australia has eradicated foot and mouth disease and wants to ensure it doesn’t get brought back into the country through undeclared meat products, according to government officials. The country maintains strict regulations on edible items from outside countries to prevent non-indigenous insects and diseases from infecting its food.
