A Walmart employee in Elkhart, Ind., heard a man calling them over while in the store’s parking lot Tuesday morning. When the employee approached the caller, the man allegedly attacked them with a machete, according to the Elkhart Police Department.

Authorities said the alleged attacker – identified as 25-year-old Elkhart resident Lincoln Leuchtner, according to WDNU – fled the parking lot on a bicycle after the attack.

Leuchtner allegedly entered the Walmart store around 8:33 a.m. Tuesday and took the machete, which he put in a backpack.

Elkhart Police Department officers and Elkhart County Fire Department medics were dispatched to the scene. From there the victim, a male Walmart employee in his early 30s, was transported to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Law enforcement located the machete used in the attack underneath a car in the lot. A search of the area also resulted in Leuchtner’s arrest at approximately 9:30 a.m. He was transported to the Elkhart County Jail.

In 2015, an 18-year-old Lincoln Leuchtner was arrested for armed robbery of an Elkhart 7-11, according to 95.3 MNC.

“We will release further information regarding this investigation as we are able to do so,” the Elkhart Police Department said Tuesday.
