An airline passenger recently had what could arguably be the worst flying experience ever, after getting trapped in the bathroom for nearly the entire flight.

The incident happened Tuesday on a SpiceJet flight from Mumbai to Bengaluru city, which usually takes an hour and 45 minutes, BBC News reported.

The unidentified 37-year-old used the bathroom shortly after takeoff and when he went to exit, the door would not open. The flight crew and even other passengers attempted to open the door multiple times, but it wouldn't budge.

In an attempt to calm the man, who was reportedly shouting in distress, the crew slipped a note under the bathroom door.

"Sir we tried our best to open the door, however we could not open. Do not panic. We are landing in a few mins, so please close the commode lid and sit on it and secure urself. As soon as the main door is open, engineer will come. Do not panic," the note said, according to the New York Post, which published an image of the letter.

After the plane landed, two engineers finally were able to open the doors and free the man from the bathroom, where he had been trapped for roughly an hour.

SpiceJet addressed the incident, saying it regretted the "inconvenience caused to the passenger."

"Throughout the journey, our crew provided assistance and guidance to the passenger. Upon arrival, an engineer opened the lavatory door and the passenger received immediate medical support," the Indian budget airline said in a statement to BBC. "The passenger is being provided a full refund."

The passenger said it was more than an inconvenience. He claims he was injured during landing and that the airline offered no medical help, The Times of India reported.

"I was traumatized, dazed and injured as I was thrown around inside the toilet as the plane landed in Bengaluru. There was no medical assistance at all," he told the newspaper. "It took 20 minutes for someone to start breaking open the door. When I came out, I had bruises, and my vision was blurred for a while. But I received no medical help even after coming out of the loo. I got a bottle of water and a barrage of apologies from SpiceJet."

The man said the airline offered him a voucher worth about $60, but he turned it down and now plans to take legal action.
