A haunted house actor in South Carolina playing the role of a zombie was shot over the weekend, police reported.
The incident is more complex as the man who pulled the trigger said he thought the gun was a prop and didn’t realize it was a real gun.
On Saturday, Keal Latrell Brown, 39, was walking through the Hollywood Wax Museum Haunted House with a group when they were frightened by a performer. One member of the group fell to the ground, and a gun slid on the floor to Brown’s feet.
Brown told police at the Myrtle Beach attraction that he thought the gun was part of the haunted house and didn’t realize it was real.
Police said he “picked it up and fired twice,” striking the performer one time in the shoulder on Saturday.
On Tuesday, police arrested Brown, charging him with contributing to the delinquency of a minor “for knowingly giving the gun used in the shooting to a minor,” police said on Wednesday.
The minor was Brown’s 15-year-old child, according to WMBF. While Brown has been charged, investigators shared that they don’t know who the gun belongs to or where it came from.
Authorities shared that Brown could face additional charges as the investigation and case continues.
