A man in Florida has been accused of attempting to poison his neighbors by injecting chemicals under the front door of their apartment after they had a spat over a noise complaint.
Police say that Xuming Li, 36, has been charged for allegedly sticking a syringe under the door of Umar Abdullah’s Tampa Bay apartment.
Police say they have video footage of Li carrying out his attack on the apartment where Abdullah, 36, his wife, and his 1-year-old live.
Abdullah shared with Bay News 9 that for more than a month he and his family were detecting a chemical smell inside their home, which resulted in them falling ill.
Among the symptoms they suffered were shortness of breath, migraines, nausea, drowsiness, and hair loss.
After becoming suspicious of the smell and wanting to know what was going on, Abdullah set up a camera inside a plant facing his front door.
When he checked the footage, he allegedly found Li, his downstairs neighbor, on video injecting something under his door.
“We never expected anyone doing something, a neighbor who we knew by face at least for a year, so we were horrified. We were shaking,” Abdullah shared with Bay News 9.
Shortly after the birth of his daughter, Abdullah, and Li had gotten into a disagreement over noise complaints, the man shared.
Abdullah and his family quickly called the police after they discovered what Li was doing.
Police responded with a hazmat team to investigate the situation. They reportedly found methadone and hydrocodone when they tested the liquid that was being injected into the apartment, an arrest affidavit obtained by KKTV said.
“If you look at him, he’s holding his breath, so he knows the hazardous nature of this chemical,” Abdullah said.
In June, Li was arrested and charged with six counts, including multiple counts of battery, aggravated stalking, and dispersing a chemical agent.
Li is set to return to court in December.
