Melinda French Gates and MacKenzie Scott have committed to giving $40 million to organizations that promote gender equality.

It’s an effort by the wealthy philanthropists to promote the power and influence of women and gender non-conforming people.

More than 500 organizations applied to the Equity Can’t Wait Challenge hosted by French Gate’s and Scott, billed as “an opportunity to invest in and empower women leaders.”

The winners pitched ideas for creating a childcare infrastructure for American workers, training more women how to code and build software, supporting college graduates entering the workforce, and growing the number of female-owned businesses.

The four award recipients are “strong teams working on the front lines and from within communities to help women build power in their lives and careers,” Scott said in a written statement.

Melinda French Gates and Bill Gates divorced recently, as did MacKenzie Scott and Jeff Bezos.

The projects focus on tech, higher education, and minority communities.

Last month, Scott said she had donated nearly $2 billion to non-profit organizations focused on racial equality, LGBTQ rights, and climate change, such as the NAACP Legal Defense Fund and the Obama Foundation.

French Gates donated roughly $1 billion several years ago to support groups fighting for gender equality.
