More A-list male celebrities are rocking skirts during public appearances, and people are loving the gender bending look while designers hope it catches on in middle America.
When Brad Pitt was asked about the inspiration behind his skirt-friendly fashion choice at the Bullet Train premiere, he told Variety, "I don't know! We're all going to die, so let's mess it up."
Other famous stars who have sported the garment recently include Oscar Isaac, Harry Styles, and Bad Bunny. While wearing the look for the first time can feel daunting, style experts maintain the wearer can add a more masculine touch to the look based on their personal preferences.
"For me, skirts are far from being feminine—they can be, but I find them really sexy and also very masculine. I love seeing how they are steadily coming into the men’s closet without fear of judgment," Louis Rubi, the designer and founder of LR3, told Vogue in a recent interview.
On TikTok, the hashtag #boysinskirts has been viewed over 240 million times, CNN reports, 'with male users sharing their outfits and style advice.'
"People don't celebrate men in skirts as much they celebrate heterosexual creators or celebrities," style blogger Shivam Bhardwaj told CNN. "It makes me a little sad that people don't acknowledge that men from (the LGBTQ) community have been wearing skirts for many decades, and we have played a major part in breaking this stereotype."
Rubi recommended pairing a pleated skirt with trousers for a timeless take on the trend. From thrift stores to high fashion designers, there are lots of great places to shop for the perfect garment for you, he added.
