A source close to Rep. Dean Phillips (D-Minn.) confirmed to WCCO’s Chad Hartman Saturday that the congressman is running for president.
“He will announce his intentions next Friday in New Hampshire,” Hartman said in a Tweet. “He will concentrate his campaign on New Hampshire and based on the results in NH, Phillips will decide where the campaign goes next.”
Phillips, 54, assumed office in 2019. He’s a graduate of Brown University and University of Minnesota's Carlson School of Business. Phillips has also run his family’s business, Phillips Distilling, and helped build Talenti Gelato, per his website.
“In Congress, Dean is focused on restoring Americans’ faith in our government. He's on a mission to inspire a new era of collaboration in Washington, pursue common ground for the common good, and end the corrupting influence of special interest money in our politics,” said the site.
On his X page, Phillips also touts his belief in bipartisanism.
President Joe Biden, 80, has also announced his intention to run in 2024. Robert Kennedy Jr. also announced a bid to run in 2024 as a Democrat, but he has since become an independent candidate.
