A Mississippi zookeeper is recovering after a monkey attack at the Jackson Zoo.
Officials say the incident occurred Saturday inside the monkey enclosure while the zookeeper was tending to the primate.
"The zookeeper was injured as a result of the incident, which involved one monkey," city spokesperson Melissa Faith Payne told WLBT.
The keeper's injuries were not disclosed but are said to be nonlife-threatening. Other details surrounding the attack, including what type of monkey was involved, were not immediately available.
"We are still waiting for an incident report from the zookeeper... so that we can know in greater detail what fully transpired," Payne told the station on Monday.
As of Wednesday, no updates had been released.
According to its website, the zoo is home to several primate species including cotton-top tamarin, black-headed spider monkey, black-and-white colobus, white-handed gibbon and chimpanzee.
