A 73-year-old Illinois woman, who was reported missing by her family, has been found dead — and local police are still searching for her son.
Family members looked for them, but they said they could not find Myrtle Brown on Saturday — nor could they find her 35-year-old son, a former NFL player named Sergio Brown.
When police conducted a well-being check, Myrtle Brown was found unresponsive near a creek behind her Maywood home. Her body was transported to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office.
The Medical Examiner has ruled Myrtle Brown’s death a homicide, saying she died from multiple injuries in an assault.
Neighbor Carlos Cortez told CBS-2 before police discovered her body, relatives were searching.
"Her family came and knocked on the door and was looking for her cause they put out a police report because she was missing for 72 hours," Cortez said.
He says he last saw the mother and son on Thursday, but police found unusual behavior on a ring doorbell video
"They see him taking out the trash, and they see him have a bomb fire, where he burnt all her clothes," Cortez added.
Cortez said Sergio’s family says he had been acting strangely for the last few months.
Police said they're still looking for Sergio Brown.
The Maywood Police Department asked anyone with information on Brown’s location to contact police. Those who are nervous about talking with police were encouraged to use the anonymous tip line, which can be reached at 708-450-1787.
