Should I stay or should I go? That's the question Elon Musk is asking Twitter users about his role as CEO -- and he may not get the answer he's looking for.
Musk launched a poll on Sunday asking users whether he should step down as head of Twitter, adding that he will abide by the poll results.
More than 17.5 million users participated in the poll, with 57.5% voting in favor of him stepping down. The poll closed early Monday morning.
Musk has yet to comment on the status of the poll or reveal if he will actually step down, as he said he would.
Musk's $44 billion takeover of Twitter has been anything but smooth.
Recently, he suspended and then reinstated the accounts of several high-profile journalists who were critical of his management of the company. Musk has said the accounts were effectively "doxing" him by exposing his real-time location, putting his family and himself at risk. The accounts were reactivated following a Twitter poll that showed 58% of respondents said the ban should be lifted "now."
In November, Musk reinstated former U.S. President Donald Trump's Twitter account, which was permanently suspended shortly after the deadly Capitol riot in January 2021. The move caused several advertisers to pull their campaigns from the platform.
Other changes -- including the nearly immediate firing 50% of Twitter's staff and offering to sell blue verification checkmarks for $8 -- have been controversial.
