SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS RADIO) – The House Oversight Committee was informed on Friday by the National Archives and Records Administration that some records from the Trump White House have still not been turned over.
Rep. Carolyn Maloney (D-N.Y.) received the letter from acting archivist Debra Steidel Wall. In it, Wall said that the National Archives is still working to retrieve documents and records from Trump administration officials who “conducted official business using non-official electronic messaging accounts.”
Those who are refusing to turn over the requested records to the National Archive are failing to comply with the Presidential Records Act, according to Wall. But, no specific person has been blamed as of yet.

“While there is no easy way to establish absolute accountability, we do know that we do not have custody of everything we should,” Wall wrote.
Wall shared in the letter that the National Archives will speak with the Justice Department to decide whether or not “to initiate an action for the recovery of records unlawfully removed.”
One thing not discussed in the letter was whether or not Trump turned over all the presidential records that were requested from him. Instead, Wall referred Maloney to the DOJ and its current investigation.
Almost 20 months after Trump’s time in office came to an end, officials are still working on collecting records from his four years in the White House. Officials have called it “outrageous” that they will not comply.
“Trump and his senior staff have shown an utter disregard for the rule of law and our national security by failing to return presidential records as the law requires,” Maloney told NBC News in a statement. “I will continue to do everything in my power to ensure that all presidential records from the Trump White House are returned to the custody of the government and to make sure these abuses never happen again.”
Trump made headlines at the beginning of August after the FBI raided his Mar-a-Lago home in Florida and recovered more than 100 classified documents.
Maloney responded to Wall, saying in a letter that she is worried about “sensitive presidential records” not being recovered by the government.
She continued saying, “revelations that Mr. Trump’s representatives misled investigators about his continued possession of government property and that material found at his club included dozens of ‘empty folders’ for classified material.”
