A new online scam that preys on insecurities could do more than just ruin your day if you fall for it -- the ruse could ruin your relationship.
If you've recently been suspicious about your partner's extracurricular activities, you'll want to pay extremely close attention to your email.
A phishing email making its way into inboxes claims to have proof that the recipient's spouse is cheating on them. The emails seem legit upon first glance and even use real full names, cybersecurity news outlet Bleeping Computer reported.
The email claims to be from a cyber security company and promises to give the recipient full access to evidence of infidelities if they click a link to visit a website.
It's not exactly clear what the scammer's motives are. In comments on a Reddit thread about the emails, some users reported that the links took them to a login page, perhaps in an attempt to distribute malware or steal credentials.
The message appears to be "spoofing an email address attached to 3Bigs, a legitimate healthcare data company," Bleeping Computer reported.
The email might send your mind spinning and leave you wanting to see the apparent evidence of your partner's extramarital affair. But emails like this are not telling the truth. It's advised that you delete the message and certainly do not click on any links in the email.
