A police officer was forced to play the role of a doctor when he found a woman in active labor after hearing her scream inside his office.

Officer R. Salazar, an officer with the Fort Worth Police Department, was given quite the surprise on Friday when he overheard a woman screaming while on a virtual meeting inside the North West Police station.

The woman, which officer Salazar located nearby in a black vehicle that had its doors open, was screaming as she was in "active labor," the department shared in a press release.

Once he encountered the woman, Salazar called medical services from the Fort Worth Fire department and Medstar, but they didn't make it there in time.

The department shared that "prior to their arrival, Officer Salazar helped deliver the baby boy."

Thanks to the help from Salazar, the mother was able to deliver her child, and both of them were transported to a local hospital once medical services arrived.
